Music, movies and anything else that passes for entertainment: what role do they play in our lives? And as Christians, the more imporant question, what role should they play? I would very much like to know what you all think of the influence music, movies etc. has on us, as well as what principal(s) Christians should adhere to in this area. On the same wavelength, I'd like your thoughts on the following:

"Most of what passes for legitimate entertainment is inferior or foolish and only caters to or exploits people's weaknesses. Avoid being one of the mob who indulges in such pastimes. Your life is too short, and you have important things to do. Be discriminating about what images and ideas you let in your mind. If you yourself don't choose what thoughts and images you expose yourself to, someone else will, and their motives may not be the highest. It is the easiest thing in the world to slide imperceptibly into vulgarity. But there's no need for that to happen if you determine not to waste your time and attention on mindless pap."

-Roman philosopher Epictetus (AD 55-135), in his work The Art of Living

Arrogant is he who feels not. That which is endowed and not under practice and refine is property of a fool. He who remains apathetic to purpose and meaning seeks death. Obstinate is he who reveres man, for man deserves not, that which isn’t his.

This awful affectation of bravado so willingly deemed necessary provides the only sight of blindness necessary to remain ignorant. Cliched three times through cancels not the truth. So under what circumstance can one be free from such unbreakable chains? The answer from beginning to end is the Beginning to End. Alpha-Omega, time matters not.

He who trembles not, repulses his Creator. For many times will he be driven to his knees by the overwhelming conviction that he has absolutely no other place to go. Selah, Selah!

The Lord is faithful, even when I am not faithful. The Lord is patient, even when I am not patient. The Lord is loving, even when I am not loving.

And for any one of these, I should rejoice all of my days - may it be so!

My prayer for all of you is that of the Old Testament - "'Be Holy, for I am Holy'" saith the Lord.

Jesus promised we would do better things than He, and I surely believe this. But, who would be so audacious so as to say we are right now doing better things than he? Please, do speak up.
